S106-A: A New Environmental Assessment Tool for Roofing Systems

Speakers

James Hoff, Research Director, CEIR

In an effort to support responsible environmental management of the billions of square feet of new nonresidential roofing assets installed each year in the United States, the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing, a Washington-based non-profit has developed the RoofPoint Environmentally Innovative Guideline for Nonresidential Roofing Systems. Organized around four primary categories of energy, materials, water and life-cycle, RoofPoint provides a comprehensive road map for the development of sustainable commercial roofing systems. This presentation will review the key features and benefits of the guideline which has been introduced in a nationwide pilot program in 2010. The session will provide attendees not only with a cogent overview of current sustainable roofing activities across the United States, but also with tools useful in the evaluation, design and selection of sustainable roofing systems.
