S408: Case Studies on Facilities Management and GIS Integration

Until recently, Facilities Management Systems (FMS) have not been integrated with GIS. Within the past few years, advances in 3-D GIS technology, combined with new capabilities in FM systems, have provided the opportunity for various organizations to integrate the two systems. But there are still many questions related to this integration, including:

• What are the potential approaches to creating GIS Facility data?
• Do I need to start with BIM? Laser scanning to BIM?
• What workflows do I need to implement to integrate GIS and FMS?
• What level of feature/asset detail should I show in my GIS?
• What software functionality do I need to make the integration work?

These topics will be addressed by considering case studies of three different owners using three different CMMS/FMS products that each achieved a solution that meets their requirements.
