S107: Commissioning New and Existing Buildings for LEED and Energy Savings
Speakers
This 90-minute seminar on new and existing building commissioning (Cx) is based on the commissioning (Cx) training programs that Mr. Wilkinson authored for ASHRAE and the USGBC LEED program. The Cx process spans the entire life of the building project, from planning to occupancy, and is practiced today much as it was developed by ASHRAE in the 1980s. The program builds on the ASHRAE tasks and procedures to detail the requirements adopted by the LEED programs from 1998 to the present. Cx is a mandatory requirement of the USGBC LEED new construction programs. Although LEED has popularized commissioning, it is important to gain a perspective of the ASHRAE Cx process from which LEED Cx was taken.
Both Cx for new buildings and Cx for existing buildings are covered. Documentation such as the OPR, the BOD and the Systems Manual are defined and discussed. The program includes references to web sites for further learning and case studies illustrating the costs and benefits of Cx. The program information about Cx training and certification are valuable to those seeking training and to those who wish to evaluate the skills and knowledge of providers, before they buy. Cx for Green buildings, conventional buildings, mission critical installations and new and existing buildings varies—-it is important to know why.
