The various stakeholders and professional disciplines involved in AEC projects are often separated not only by distance, but by technology and disparate file formats. Today, with Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and tools like GRAPHISOFT BIM Server, it is readily possible to move away from working in an environment of disconnected silos.
This session will discuss strategies for employing Building Information Modeling (BIM) in a collaborative and coordinated environment using IFC. We will look at interoperability as an open collaboration solution and discuss workflow and process change using BIM – while referencing IFC – as a means for neutral and non-proprietary exchange. You’ll learn:
• How to effectively filter and save your models as IFC so they are most useful to members within your extended project team
• The impact of IFC on sharing BIM data for sustainable projects and energy analysis
• How common reference standards and classification systems like OmniClass can be used throughout the building lifecycle
