S207: Sustainability and Energy Efficiency for High Containment Government Labs

Speakers

Timothy O’Connell, Project Manager, HOK

The DC CFL is the co-location of the District of Columbia?s: MPD Forensics Labs; Public Health Labs, including a BSL3 lab; and the Medical Examiner, including infectious and isolated autopsy suites.  Even with this lab intensive project, the design team was able to achieve a 26% energy saving.  Almost all of the labs, including the containment spaces have daylight and views to the outside.  There is no storm water run-off, and over two million gallons of potable water will be saved annually with the storm water reclaim system.
