S606: Utilizing the Green Globes Environmental Rating

Speakers

Karen P. Butler, , US EPA

Julie Sobelman CIH, CSP, LEED AP, , US Department of State

To comply with the requirements of the Sustainability Guiding Principles, numerous government agencies have sought tools and the assistance of sustainability and energy management professionals.  One of the successful tools that the government and consultants alike have been able to use to meet the guiding principles is the Green Globes Rating and Assessment System.  The U.S. Veterans Affairs Department (VA), which assessed 173 hospitals utilizing Green Globes, is a testament to the usefulness of the tool in a federal government application.  The VA is joined by other agencies such as the Department of State, the General Services Administration, and various cities and counties throughout the United States.  Hear from a Green Globes user and a Green Globes representative about how government agencies are using the Green Globes tool in their sustainability strategy.  This session is geared towards state, local, and federal agencies that wish to:

1. Gain a general understanding of the Green Globes Environmental Rating System

2. Understand how they can utilize Green Globes to comply with mandates, such as the Executive Orders

3. Learn of successful federal agencies that have incorporated Green Globes as part of their sustainability program
